The Security Police stated that several provocations or insurgences might be organized on 16 March the unofficial commemoration day of Latvian WWII legionaries. Therefore, the Mayor of Riga City Aivars Aksenoks announced that the Riga City Council will not authorise any commemorative processions and events on this day. The activist of the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian-Language Schools Yurijs Petropavlovskis has appealed the decision of the Administrative Regional Court in the Supreme Court Senate. Yesterday, the Committee of the Cabinet of Ministers refused to grant extra funding for the Naturalisation Board. At least 50,000 Latvian residents have left the country in a year and half The biggest employers are already looking for guest workers If the government does not re-evaluate its social, tax, and economic policy, we should get ready for the influx of people from the worlds poorest countries, considers Eriks Jekabsons.

Two members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Josette Durrieu (France) and Kimmo Sasi (Finland) asked the Bureau of PACE to stop the post monitoring dialog with Latvia on the situation of national minorities in the country. Josette Durrieu and Kimmo Sasi believe that there is no need to continue the post monitoring dialog, because Latvia has fulfilled all basic recommendations. As reported, in January the Bureau of the PACE did not accept the decision of its Monitoring Committee to stop the post-monitoring dialog with Latvia. The application will be reviewed on 8 March.
