Two Latvian historians interviewed by Diena criticize the documentary film Victory Day Our Festivity presented by the members of the political party For Human Rights in United Latvia (FHRUL) Jakovs Pliners and Valerijs Buhvalovs to several Russian language schools as a teaching aid about the main battles of the WWII. Two historians believe that documentary cannot be used as teaching aid in schools because it is subjective and materials are of low quality.

Vesti Segodnya reports that inspectors of the State Language Centre have fined a director of a Russian language school in Daugavpils (city in the Eastern part of Latvia) for insufficient state language proficiency. Columnist of the newspaper believes that the aim of such inspections is to vacate directors offices in Russian language schools in favour of those officials of the Ministry of Education who might lose their jobs due to planned staff reduction.
The National Council for Radio and Television (NCRT) disclaimed the statement that there is a possibility to stop broadcasting of Russian TV channels in Latvia. The political party For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM (FF/LNIM) calls to forbid demonstration of a documentary film “Victory Day – Our Festivity” in Latvia’s schools. The documentary was made with support of the members of the political party For Human Rights in United Latvia (FHRUL) Jakovs Pliners and Valerijs Buhvalovs and presented to several Russian language schools. The FF/LNIM considers that the documentary is a propaganda that “glorifies occupational Soviet Army”. According to a research held by marketing research company FACTUM, Russian mass media had the biggest influence on public opinion of Latvian residents about military conflict between Georgia and Russia. Influence of Latvian mass media on public opinion was significantly lower, while foreign non-Russian mass media practically did not have any influence on residents. The biggest information source about the conflict was Russian TV channels. Famous Latvian lawyer Andris Grutups has stated that unity of Latvian society should be based only on ethnic Latvian culture and Latvianisation. Vesti Segodnya prints an interview with the head of the Naturalisation Board Eizenija Aldermane. According to Mrs. Aldermane, there are 370, 000 non-citizens in Latvia. About one-third of non-citizens are over 61 years old, while one-fourth are under 18 years old. Mrs. Aldermane believes that those who did not receive Latvian citizenship so far do not need it. Eizenija Aldermane also believes that Latvia politically is not ready to grant non-citizens voting rights in municipal elections. Mrs. Aldermane states that if persons are not proficient in Latvian language they are not able to make their own choice and will fulfil somebody elses will.

- 35% of Latvian residents consider that Russia is a threat for independence of Latvia
According to recent public opinion survey held by marketing and public opinion research centre SKDS, 35% of Latvian residents consider that Russia is a threat for independence of Latvia, while, 52% of respondents do not agree with such assertion. Among those who believe that Russia is threat for Latvia 49% are ethnic Latvians and 14% ethnic Russians. Telegraf , Latvijas Avize, NRA
