The Minister of Interior Linda Murniece has asked the Security Police to evaluate an incident between a policeman and two men who refused to speak Latvian to him. A video posted on the Internet shows that a car driver and his passenger stopped by the policeman for the violation of traffic regulations refused to show their IDs arguing that they do not speak Latvian and insisted that the officer speaks to them in Russian. However, the police officer spoke to them in Latvian only. The Minister considers that the Security Police should verify whether the individuals were mocking the policeman or whether it can even be considered incitement to ethnic hatred.
