Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. The State Employment Agency (SEA) approved 779 work permits for citizens of non-EU countries in the first half of 2009. In the first half of 2008 the SEA approved 1,728 work permits. The demand for guest workers in Latvia has decreased due to reduction in manufacturing, services and building industries.
