Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. The Baltic Assembly held a seminar on language and cultural policy in Tallinn last Saturday. Estonian member of the Assembly M.Kubo in his report said that Estonia could not afford financing of a bilingual education system. Latvian representatives mentioned problems encountered by native Latvian-speakers who often were not understood when using the language in their everyday life.

The Mandate of the OSCE Mission to Latvia has been extended until January 31, 1997. Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press-Secretary Pildegovics said that the Mission has almost accomplished it task and had to monitor the naturalization process.
