Vice-speaker of the Russian Duma Lyubova Sliska who visits Latvia within the conference of the world’s Russian-language press editors had good impression and forecasted constructive neighboring relations between Latvia and Russia after meeting the Latvian authorities – Prime Minister, President, deputy speaker of the Saeima. Also, the head of the Russian Press Association was sure that after having got acquainted with the situation in Latvia the reserved attitude towards Latvia will improve.

Despite the promises to the Ministry of Justice, State Language Center will not manage to finish the work on language regulations this week. Two problems made the work harder for the Center: sickness of its head Ms. Hirsa and the fact that proposals from different ministries contradict each other so it is hard to evaluate them.

In her opinion article in Rigas Balss the former MP Ilga Kreituse refers to the announcements coming from the state authorities that two official languages will not be introduced in Latvia but she has not heard what will be done to practically avoid two state languages.
