On 8 and 9 August, UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination examined the Periodic Report on the implementation of the UN 1965 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in Latvia from 2008 to 2016.

The EU-funded project sCAN – Platforms, Experts, Tools: Specialised Cyber-Activists Network (2018-2020), coordinated by Licra (International League Against Racism and Antisemitism), aims at gathering expertise, tools, methodology and knowledge on cyber hate and developing transnational comprehensive practices for identifying, analysing, reporting and counteracting online hate speech. This project draws on the results of successful European projects already realised, for example the “Research, Report, Remove project: Countering Cyber-Hate phenomena” and “Facing Facts”, and strives to continue, emphasize and strengthen the initiatives developed by the civil society for counteracting hate speech.
The project aims to address two key needs: the need for more extensive monitoring initiatives to be put into action to assess the fulfilment of Internet Companies in their commitments, particularly through providing empirical evidence, and the need to advocate for greater transparency of the process...
The following work presents, in detail, the findings of in-depth primary and secondary research conducted over two years tracing the Lifecycle of a Hate Crime in selected EU Member States. The research was undertaken in five jurisdictions within the EU - Ireland, England and Wales, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Sweden in which contrasting approaches to the prosecution and punishment of hate crime are evident.
