The policy paper “Human Rights in Mental Health Care in Baltic Countries” has been prepared by the Latvian Centre for Human Rights (LCHR) and its partner organizations: Vilnius Regional Office of Global Initiative for Psychiatry, Mental Disability Advocacy Centre and Estonian Patient Advocacy Association.
On 27-28 April, 2006 the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and the Association for the Prevention of Torture are organising an international conference on independent detention monitoring of closed institutions (prisons, police cells, mental hospitals, etc.) in the Baltic States and the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on Torture. The conference is part of the European Commission funded project of the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies “Monitoring Human Rights and Prevention of Torture in Closed institutions: prisons, police cells and mental health care institutions in Baltic countries.”
Examination of the current state of affairs with prison employment in the Latvian prison system, and examples of good practice in selected Latvian prisons.
The Latvian Centre for Human Rights with the financial support of the Canadian Embassy in Riga is proceeding with the second of a series of the four seminar cycle “Mobilizing Civil Society against Intolerance”. This seminar relates to racism and intolerance based on religion.
