Conference "EU Fundamental Rights Charter and the Role of Civil Society in Promoting Fundamental Rights"

Latvian Centre for Human Rights in co-operation with Human Rights Monitoring Institute (Lithuania) organised a conference “EU Fundamental Rights Charter and the Role of Civil Society in Promoting Fundamental Rights” in Riga on 27-28 November.

 

 The aim of the conference was to raise awareness on the Lisbon Treaty , and developments concerning the EU Fundamental Rights Charter since the coming into force of the Lisbon Treaty. The conference were introduced to the work of the EU agency dealing with fundamental rights issues – EU Fundamental Rights Agency (Vienna). Several panel discussions were held on EU Citizen’s Initiatives to date, examples of participatory democracy, wider fundamental rights issues and equality and diversity. The Europe for Citizens Programme representative provided information on funding opportunities within the programme.

The conference was attended by the representatives of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) and civil society from various EU Member States – United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Greece, France, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Finland, and Latvia,

 The Conference is funded by the European Commission, Europe for Citizens Programme.
