According to the leader of the party “For Other Politics” (member of union of political parties the Unity) Aigars Stokenbergs, exclusion of the Concord Centre from the negotiations on establishment of the government coalition was a mistake but it still can be solved. At the same time, the leader of the Concord Centre Janis Urbanovics stated that the demand from the Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis to acknowledge occupation of Latvia was an insult to his party and, therefore, the CC does not evaluate the possibility to be the part of the government headed by Mr. Dombrovskis anymore.

The Unity decided to exclude the nationalists’ party For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM-All for Latvia! from the establishment of government coalition. According to Mr. Stokenbergs, excessive ethnic tension will hinder the government from solving economic and social issues which are the priority now. Presently, the government coalition planned to be established by two parties which have in total 55 mandates – the Unity and the Union of Greens and Farmers.

Chas reports about a meeting of representatives of Russias regional authorities with Latvian residents discussing voluntary resettlement to Russia. According to a representative of Russias Federal Migration Service, 298 residents of Latvia already resettled to Russia in the framework of resettlement program until 1 October, and about 3,000 Latvian residents turned for information about resettlement conditions.

The nationalists’ union For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIN-All for Latvia! decided to agree with conditions set by the Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis for participation in the government coalition. The union agreed that revision of issues regarding status of Latvian language, citizenship, naturalisation, rights of ethnic minorities, proportion of state language in education and repatriation will be initiated only with agreement of all coalition partners.

The Unity proposes to allow dual citizenship to those children who were born abroad in a family of at least one Latvian citizen and received citizenship of other country automatically. The proposal could potentially exclude children of naturalised citizens from this opportunity. Dual citizenship also could be allowed to those persons who emigrated from Latvia due to Nazi or Soviet occupation and their descendants who did not apply for Latvian citizenship until 1995. Presently, only those Latvian emigrants who registered as citizens until 1995 are allowed to have dual citizenship.

Latvijas Avize prints an article about the draft Society Integration Guidelines elaborated by the Ministry of Justice. According to the newspaper, even though the Guidelines stresses that integration should be based on state language, the role of state language in interethnic communication is reduced comparing to the previous variants of the draft Guidelines, because the latest Guidelines say that proficiency in various languages has its role in establishment of dialogue among ethnic and wider groups of residents.
