Press Report

During the 2nd congress that took place last Saturday in Jelgava the leaders of the People’s Party announced that the party should become European-like, pragmatic and oriented at the country’s economic growth - a niche earlier taken by Latvia’s Way who has lately shifted to more social democratic lines. The party's goal is for Latvia to finish EU accession negotiations during the term of the current Saeima and for that purpose the party is ready for compromises. The party has changed its approach in national issues, it has called all non-citizens to learn the language and become citizens if they feel like that. Also, concerning the Language Law, the People's Party will maintain the centrist position and give in neither to Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK's isolationist position nor Latvia's Way's blind cosmopolitan obeying everything that comes from EU.
