The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticizes the language quotas included in the Law on Electronic Mass Media recently supported by the Saeima. According to a representative of the Russian Ministry, language quotas for TV channels are discrimination of rights and interests of Russian speaking residents of Latvia. As reported, the new Law on Electronic Mass Media stipulates that 65% of broadcasts of national and regional electronic mass media should be in Latvian language.
