Integration monitor

Chas prints a letter by the ‘descendant citizen of Latvia, which calls non-citizens and left-wing politicians to act more actively to protect the rights of non-citizens. According to the author, left-wing MPs should apply to the Constitutional Court asking to abolish the discriminatory Citizenship Law, demand the European Parliament (EP) to audit the Citizenship Law, while non-citizens should apply to the EP and ask granting the status of an EU citizen to them.

Russian-language newspapers reprint fragments of the interview with the Special Assignments Minister for Social Integration Ainars Latkovskis (published by Latvijas Avize yesterday). In the interview the Minister criticised activities of the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian-language Schools. The Minister stated that representatives of this unregistered organisation are trying to establish contacts with the foundation ‘The New Eurasia, which works in Moscow and is financed by ‘Washington and Brussels. According to Ainars Latkovskis, the Headquarters hopes that ‘The New Eurasia will provide funding of the amount Ls140,000 (EUR199,203).
