The Head of the Latvian Delegation to the PACE Andris Berzins met with the delegation of pupils from the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian Language Schools who participated in the protest actions against the education reform in Strasbourg couple months ago. The meeting took place in Riga. The students reported to Andris Berzins that the quality of education is decreasing almost in all minority schools because of the education reform. Therefore the solution should not be sought at the level of individual schools, but should be complex, that is, changes in legislation.

The former member of the New Era Maris Gulbis talks to Vesti Segodnya about his plans to form a new party. Maris Gulbis stresses that he is not going to form a party on the basis of nationality or ethnicity. He believes that it is useless to talk about the past and former offences ‘it is time to bet on young people who do not have any prejudices either towards West or East.

Telegraf prints an article by the member of Saeima Janis Urbanovics. In the article he focuses on the issues concerning non-citizenship: its history, the current situation and possible solutions. Janis Urbanovics believes that the situation can be solved by the down-top approach. He suggests that each Russian should talk to at least one Latvian and explain the situation from ‘the Russians perspective. That, according to Janis Urbanovics, would lead to bringing in changes in the Law on Citizenship and development of one nation in the country.

Vesti Segodnya reports on the launching of the project by the NGO Women Education Centre. The key goal of the project is the usage of the Latvian language in practice, as according to the data many people who can speak Latvian experience psychological barriers to use the language. The Society Integration Foundation funds the project; its duration is seven month.
