The main topic in today’s consultations of Latvijas Cels with their coalition partners could be selecting candidates to the commissions of Finances and Capital Market, Regulator of Public Services and Agency of Insolvency and Bankruptcy, offering one of these positions to TB/LNNK. Minister of Economics A.Kalvitis is against nomination political persons to this post. He finds it impossible that after the TB/LNNK voted against nominating E.Krastins to the post of the Chairman of Finances and Capital Market Commission because of his political belonging thay would be offered a post in such a commission.

The Satversme Security Bureau stated in its letter to the MP Dz.Abikis that the draft resolution of the Union For Human Rights in United Latvia, where it called to start actions of non-violent disobedience in protest against the State Language Law norms, might be regarded as a voiced opinion of the party and therefore there was no grounds to start a criminal proceeding against it.

The newspaper Respublika interviewed one of the leaders of the Movement Equality S.Dimanis. Speaking about the call of the Union For Human Rights in United Latvia for non-violent disobedience, he said that so far the human rights activists many times had appealed to international organisations about discrimination of Russian speakers in Latvia. From one side they have received understanding, on the other side the West closed their eyes upon the new democracy in Latvia. What concerns the very call, the conference did not give answers to many questions, who would be the leader in this action, who would compensate the fines people had to pay for violating the law and how strong in the reality the Union was.

gives this news in more details – the Cabinet of Ministers neither adopted nor rejected the more liberal amendments elaborated by the Ministry of Interior on softening penalties for violating the norms of the State Language Law. It means that these amendments would likely be adopted by the Government today by a working procedure.
