The vote on the candidate to the post of the Chairman of the Finance and Capital market Commission E.Krastins became a test of political power in the Saeima. Latvijas Cels and People’s Party did not manage to win the opposition and their coalition partners TB/LNNK and the New Party. It has not caused the Government crisis yet. Conclusions about the Government stability might be made after the Prime Minister’s discussions with the coalition parties, planned for the next week.

Denmark is ready to continue assisting Latvia with financing and experts’ advice in Latvia’s movement towards NATO and EU. It was said by the Danish Ambassador to Latvia O.Lisborg. The bilateral co-operation program stipulates that Denmark within next two years would pay special attention to an effective introduction of EU legislation in Latvia.

The newspaper Respublika interviewed the MFA State Secretary M.Riekstins who holds this position for seven years. When asked about the future of Latvian – Russian relations, Mr.Riekstins answered that the relations would not change radically until Latvia joined EU. Therefore Latvia should develop these relations in the interests of European unity. But even now one may not describe these relation as bad, they are normal, disregarding the influence of history.

Yesterday the Saeima faction For Human Rights in United Latvia made public an announcement signed by its leader J.Jurkans. In the announcement the faction defined its attitude towards the State Language Law implementation regulations. In the announcement the faction states that they support Latvia’s attempts of to join EU at the same time when the ruling parties put their own interests above the process of Latvia ‘s integration in EU. As evidence to it may serve the adopted Citizenship Law and State language Law that ignore the demands of OSCE and EU.
