Latvian Centre for Human Rights together with the Latvian Council of Jews Congregations and Communities began a project supported by the Society Integration Foundation "NGO Capacity Building to Combat Online Hate”
Latvian Centre for Human Rights together with the Organization for Aid to Refugees (Czech Republic) as the leading partner and other partners from Central and Eastern EU countries implemented a project „Fostering political participation and policy involvement of migrants in 9 Central and Eastern EU countries” (Agreement No. HOME/2013/EIFX/CA/ CFP/4234) supported by the European Commission's Fund fo the Integration of Third Country Nationals
Latvian Centre for Human Rights (beneficiary) in cooperation with Lithuanian Red Cross Society (co-beneficiary) and Human Rights League, Slovakia (co-beneficiary) started to implement a project „Developing good practices: promoting compliance with the Return Directive in Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia”
In order to assist the Latvian government in fulfilling its international obligations, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) concluded an agreement in 2011 with the Latvian State Border Guard. The aim of the agreement is to support access of asylum-seekers to Latvia and the country’s asylum procedure. It allows UNHCR to monitor activities at the border crossing points and at the international airport in Riga. On behalf of UNHCR, the non-governmental organization Latvian Centre for Human Rights (LCHR), will regularly visit border areas, the airport and detention facilities and will have access to statistics and the case files of asylum-seekers. Specific issues that emerge will be discussed in working group meetings. UNHCR will also provide support and training to the border guards and other stakeholders.
