Newcomers from across Latvia joined first online informative seminar “Discrimination, hate crimes and hate speech: what can I do?” held on 14 May. Diverse group of participants took part in the event: expatriates, foreign students, asylum seekers, and persons with alternative or refugee status.
Latvian Centre for Human Rights and foundation "Make Room" is inviting newcomers living in Latvia to an interactive session “Discrimination, hate crimes/hate speech: what can I do?”
Latvian Centre for Human Rights provides free-of-charge counselling and legal aid in cases of discrimination and hate crimes.
The seminar gathered experts and other stakeholders from Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia and Croatia with the aim to discuss the current situation and challenges in regards to hate speech, outline best practices on how to tackle online and offline hate speech, how to empower young people and promote civic participation of migrants and minorities in addressing hate speech and promoting tolerance.
