Regional migration management accountability platform
Latvian Centre for Human Rights, together with the organisation Open Nations (Lithuania) and the War Crimes Documentation Center OPORA (Poland), is implementing the project “Regional Migration Management Accountability Platform”.
Today, hundreds of thousands of people who were forced to leave their homes because of the war in Ukraine are living in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia. Many of them rely on the temporary protection mechanism, yet the question increasingly arises:
- What happens next?
- What opportunities and rights will people have once temporary protection ends?
- Will state decisions be clear and understandable?
- How can legal uncertainty and gaps in people’s protection be avoided?
The aim of the new project is therefore to examine migration policies and practices in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, analyse the challenges faced by Ukrainian nationals with different legal statuses, and develop joint recommendations for more responsible, transparent and human‑rights‑based migration management.
The project will create a cooperation platform for NGOs in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia to amplify the voice of civil society on issues affecting thousands of people. Throughout the project, an analytical report will be prepared, and media campaigns, discussions and seminars will be organised. Important decisions must be based on facts, dialogue and respect for human dignity.
Project implementation period: 1 June 2026 to 30 April 2027.
The project is implemented with the support of the Open Lithuania Foundation’s programme “VERTA!” and funded by the European Union.
