Six citizens of Bangladesh have appealed in the Administrative District Court the refusal of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs to grant them status of refugees and political asylum in Latvia. The Bangladeshis arrived to Latvia in September 2007 with an aim to join a crew of Bangladeshi ship, however, they have disappeared from the hotel in Ventspils (city in the western part of Latvia) where they were supposed to stay while waiting for the ship and later were detained by the State Border Guard. The Bangladeshis assert that they belong to a political party which is oppressed in Bangladesh. Latvijas Avize
