On 15 February 2005 the LCHRES will organise a seminar in the series of seminars on discrimination prevention ‘Prevention of Discrimination in Europe and Latvia: Theory and Practice’ in Ventspils, at the premises of the University of Ventspils.
The seminar’s agenda will cover the following topics: development and legislation of discrimination prevention measures in the European Union; the current situation in Latvian legislation; court cases in Latvia and the role of NGOs. The analysis of a specific discrimination case and discussions will conclud the seminar.
In the framework of the three-year project ‘Prevention of Discrimination in Latvia’ funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MATRA programme), implemented by the Latvian Centre for Human Rights and Ethnic Studies (LCHRES) in partnership with the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC), the LCHRES plans to hold six regional seminars with the aim to strengthen the anti-discrimination capacity of Latvian NGOs.
