Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs A.Pildegovics announced that Latvian MFA was positive about the proposal of its Lithuanian counterpart to speed up talks on concluding an agreement on the sea border and was ready to meet in the nearest future. Co-operation between Russia and Latvia gets worse. Economic sanctions are becoming more severe in the spheres where different permissions are necessary for co-operation. The Russian Central Bank just recently demanded commercial banks to make savings when dealing with Latvian clients, but Russian National Sanitary inspection has decided not to issue permissions to import to Russia all kinds of agricultural goods from Latvia till “ the situation improves”.

Moscow would like the office of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and other UN structures to be more actively involved in the problem of Russian speakers in Latvia. This proposal was announced by the Russian party during the meeting of the Deputy Head of Russian MFA Y.Ushakov and the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights M.Robinson.
