Co-operation between Russia and Latvia gets worse. Economic sanctions are becoming more severe in the spheres where different permissions are necessary for co-operation. The Russian Central Bank just recently demanded commercial banks to make savings when dealing with Latvian clients, but Russian National Sanitary inspection has decided not to issue permissions to import to Russia all kinds of agricultural goods from Latvia till “ the situation improves”.

Moscow would like the office of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights and other UN structures to be more actively involved in the problem of Russian speakers in Latvia.
