Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. Latvian Centre for Human Rights is not responsible for information published by the media.

    • Russia’s news agency “ Rossiya Segodnya” launched news portal sputniknews.lv for Latvian audience

    Diena interviews the Minister of Education Karlis Sadurskis. According to the Minister, national minority schools should be encouraged to choose a model of education programme, which provides for the highest Latvian language proportion starting with first grade. At the same time, he emphasized that national minorities should be given the opportunity to study subjects on minority language and culture in their native language. Mr Sadurskis also says that education content should be common for all schools, especially as concerns Latvian language and literature and history. According to Diena, 29% of students studied in minority schools in 2014/2015.

    Media reports on news portal sputniknews.lv launched by Russia’s news agency “Rossiya Segodnya”, which is wholly owned and operated by the Russian government. The news portal publishes articles in Russian and Latvian languages about events in Latvia, Russia and world news. According to the Security Police, the launch of the news portal is Russia’s propaganda tool. Lsm.lv
