Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. • State Language Centre: employees at work places should speak Latvian language only
• Congress of Non-Citizens conducted its congress

The State Language Centre (SLC) called to speak Latvian language only at work places. The SLC informed that it has received a number of complaints that employees fulfilling their work duties in the presence of clients, for instance in stores, public transport, office or institutions, communicate with each other in foreign language, mostly in Russian. According to the SLC, despite that the law does not regulate usage of state language in unofficial communication if other people – passengers, visitors, or clients, hear conversation of employees such communication can not be considered as unofficial. Therefore, the SLC stated that it is inadmissible that employees fulfilling their work and professional duties speak to each other in foreign language. Vesti Segodnya

The Congress of Non-Citizens conducted its congress on 17 January. Aleksandrs Gaponenko was elected as the head of the Congress. As the priority for its activities during Latvia’s Presidency in the Council of the EU, the Congress set issue in strengthening the role of the EU in liquidation of non-citizenship.  Latvijas Avize
