Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. Latvian Centre for Human Rights is not responsible for information published by the media.

  • Editor of the weekly magazine “Ir”: Russian mass media in Latvia is the biggest internal threat

Vesti Segodnya reports about a conference “Impact of mass media on public opinion, national security and state identity.” The majority of the participants of the conference blamed Russia’s TV channels broadcasted in Latvia for formation of the split society. According to the editor of the weekly magazine “Ir” Nelija Locmele, Russia is a threat for Latvia because Russia is undemocratic, corrupt state. Mrs Locmele believes that Russian mass media in Latvia is the biggest internal threat.
