Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. According to the preliminary results, about 94% of Latvian citizens who took part in the referendum on 23 July voted for early dissolution of the Parliament of Latvia. As reported, the ex-President Valdis Zatlers, called the referendum on the dissolution of the Saeima on 28 May. The present Saeima was elected in October 2010. Commenting tragic events of 22 July in Norway , board member of the nationalists union party All for Latvia! / For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM Janis Iesalnieks in his Twitter forum stated that multiculturalists should feel guilty for the massacre because their policy of islamisation led to insanity of the attacker. According to Mr. Iesalnieks, many Western leaders, including Angela Merkel and David Cameron, recently recognised that the policy of multiculturalism was a mistake and he believes that this mistake served as one of the reasons of tragedy in Norway last Friday. Head of the Saeimas faction the Concord Centre Janis Urbanovics appealed to the leaders of all other political parties to declare a moratorium on historical disputes and ethnic issues for the next three years. On Saturday, the congress of the nationalists parties All for Latvia! and the For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM voted for the merger of both parties. The main value of the union is ethnically Latvian, politically active family. The union supports severe state language policy and naturalisation procedure.
