Demography experts predict that the current trends in population are likely to ruin the pension system in Latvia. Official statistical data estimated that 2,2 million were living in Latvia at the beginning of 2011. However, preliminary results of the population census show 1,9 million people are living in Latvia. According to demographer Ilmars Mezs, the situation is worse than during the WWII.
