The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. The Mayor of Moscow Juriy Luzhkov in the framework of his visit to Latvia during a meeting with Russian NGOs compared Latvia to officially bilingual Finland and stated that Latvia and ethnic Latvians could benefit if Latvia becomes officially bilingual, because this would open up greater economic and financial opportunities.
