Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. Latvian Centre for Human Rights is not responsible for information published by the media.

Head of Latvia’s Roman Catholic Church, Cardinal Janis Pujats has sent an open letter to the Special Assignments Minister for Social Integration Oskars Kastens stating that Catholic Church believes that there are no problems concerning intolerance in Latvia. Therefore, Janis Pujats argues that there is no need to elaborate national program on combating discrimination and intolerance.

The Russian Community of Liepaja (city in the Northern part of Latvia) has formed a working group which will elaborate proposals on Russian-language education and schools in Liepaja. The working group consists of members of the City Council, teachers and parents of school children.

Yesterday, an exhibition “Russians in Jurmala” was opened in the Jurmala City Museum with support of Jurmala Social Integration Committee. The exhibition shows contribution of the  Russian residents and city guests into social, cultural and economical life of Jurmala.
