Integration monitor

Integration monitor is a daily Latvian press digest on ethnic minority and society integration issues. The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used. Latvian Centre for Human Rights is not responsible for information published by the media.

  • President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga will nominate Aigars Kalvitis (Peoples Party) for new Prime Minister
The President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga has stated that the outgoing Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis (People’s Party) will be officially nominated as a new head of the next government. Aigras Kalvitis announced that the coalition probably will include four parties. Three parties are members of the existing government - People’s Party, the Union of Greens and Framers, the union of Latvian First Party and Latvia’s Way. The name of the fourth partner has not been revealed yet. The media speculates that most likely it will be For Fatherland and Freedom/LNIM or “The Concord Centre”.
