Two members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Josette Durrieu (France) and Kimmo Sasi (Finland) asked the Bureau of PACE to stop the post monitoring dialog with Latvia on the situation of national minorities in the country. Josette Durrieu and Kimmo Sasi believe that there is no need to continue the post monitoring dialog, because Latvia has fulfilled all basic recommendations. As reported, in January the Bureau of the PACE did not accept the decision of its Monitoring Committee to stop the post-monitoring dialog with Latvia. The application will be reviewed on 8 March.

The MEP from Latvia Tatyana Zhdanoka is preparing a report on ensuring full-fledged participation of minorities in public affairs in all EU countries. Tatyana Zhadanoka will provide a number of suggestions in this field, for instance, inventory on participation and representation of minorities in public affairs, monitoring on discrimination in this field and others. The MEP will present her report to the European Parliament in April.
