The Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Artis Pabriks, when asked to comment the decision of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) not to accept the decision of its Monitoring Committee to stop the post-monitoring dialog with Latvia, said that there are no reasons to continue monitoring the situation of national minorities in Latvia. The Minister, however, noted that Latvia is ready to provide all the requested additional information. He believes that the Bureau’s decision is the result of political pressure made by Russian politicians.

The union For Human Rights in United Latvia (FHRUL) asked the Executive Director of the Riga City Council not to issue any permissions to hold  public actions in Riga on 16 March, the unofficial commemoration day of Latvian WW II legionnaires. FHRUL argues that public activities on 16 March ruins Latvia’s image at international level and incites ethnic hatred.
