Latvia has become a full-fledged member of the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research. According to the state secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Andris Teikmanis, this serves as a confirmation of Latvia’s ability to evaluate its history objectively, and of the strength of the country’s democratic structures.

Latvijas Avize features an article about an unapproved protest action against the education reform, which is taking place for a fourth day in a row. The protest action is organised by the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian-language Schools and the union For Human Rights in the United Latvia.

Headquarters for the Defence of the Russian-language Schools made a statement, expressing support to the youth organization of the Latvian Social Democratic Labour Party (LSDLP) and Organization of the Working Youth. These organizations, in collaboration with the young representatives of the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian-language Schools, have appealed to the government to establish a moratorium on the education reform. Latvian Social Democratic Labour Party is allegedly planning to expel those LSDLP youth organization’s representatives, who have signed this appeal, from the party.
