In the Baltic Forum conference ex-minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia A.Fjodorov said that Russia wants to improve relations with the Baltic States. Another opinion expressed by the representative from Russia is that Latvia can become a reason for the conflict between Russia and the West. FHRUL faction leader J.Jurkans thinks that Latvia is not able to work in three important fields – society integration, Latvia’s accession to the EU and the NATO – simultaneously, so all efforts should be made to develop society integration and Latvia’s accession to the EU.

On Friday the minister of Foreign Affairs I.Berzins met with the members of Parliamentary Assembly of the EC T.Deivis and G.Janson and discussed issues concerning society integration, naturalisation, regulations on the State Language Law implementation. On Friday he also had a meeting with a participant of Baltic Forum member Russia’s Political Council S.Shahraj.

During the visit of Minister of Justice I.Labucka to Brussels and Strasbourg the main discussion subject with EC officials was society integration. I.Labucka had the meeting with EU Commissioner in Justice and Interior Affairs A.Vitorino. The officials discussed Latvia’s progress report, necessity to improve court system in Latvia, corruption prevention problems and practical problems regarding situation in prisons, drug dealing prevention and penalty system.

If the congress of “Latvia’s Way” approve the changes in party’s regulations, which determine the entry of the post of the chairman deputy, perhaps, “Latvia’s Way” will manage to escape the fighting over the post of party’s chairman. The congress will take place on 9 December and 2 strong candidates have been named for the chairman post – the current chairman A.Pantelejevs and the Prime Minister A.Berzins.
