Head of the People’s Party Saeima faction Gundars Berzins announced yesterday that due to the development of the on-going pedophilia scandal and confrontation between the legislative power and the judiciary Latvia may see a parliamentary crisis that could lead to dismissal of the Saeima. People’s Party representatives objected the suggestion. Head of the faction Gundars Berzins allows the possibility that foreign special services could be involved in organizing the scandal. Prosecutor General’s Office has started checking on the version brought up by Chairman of the Board of the oil company LatRosTrans Valentins Kokalis that the scandal was financed by several Ventspils companies. Respublika writes about the plans of the Ukrainian government to extend the functions of the Ukrainian as the state language. The planned activities include introducing the Ukrainian language as mandatory for undergoing education in all state schools, testing of the civil servants as for their proficiency in Ukrainian, requiring at least 50% of the programs in non-state broadcasting companies to be in Ukrainian.
