The Monitor reviews the biggest Latvian dailies: Diena, Latvijas Avize, Neatkariga (in Latvian language), Vesti Segodnya (in Russian language). In specific cases other information sources are used.   • Newspapers report that the Law on Protection of Animals which allows slaughter of animals in a way of ritual cut or Halal method might be amended again
Newspapers report that 13 MPs want to cancel the adopted draft amendments to the Law on Protection of Animals which allowed slaughter of animals in a way of ritual cut or Halal method.  In the meantime, some other MPs consider that norms on ritual slaughter of animals should be simplified. Presently, there is only one enterprise in Latvia which practices Halal method.
