The Security Police stated that several provocations or insurgences might be organized on 16 March – the unofficial commemoration day of Latvian WWII legionaries. Therefore, the Mayor of Riga City Aivars Aksenoks announced that the Riga City Council will not authorise any commemorative processions and events on this day. However, representatives of the radical organizations “Club 415” and “National Power Union” stated that the processions will be held despite the official prohibition.

The activist of the Headquarters for the Defence of Russian-Language Schools Yurijs Petropavlovskis has appealed the decision of the Administrative Regional Court in the Supreme Court Senate. As reported, Yurijs Petropavlovskis challenged the denial of the Cabinet of Minister to grant him Latvian citizenship, however, the Administrative Regional Court refused his claim arguing that it is beyond court’s competence as it is political and not administrative case.
