Five training seminars in high schools "Active European Citizenship"

In January, February and March 2013 the Latvian Centre for Human Rights conducted five training seminars in high schools "Active European Citizenship".

The seminars provided information to high school students about the rights and freedoms of the European citizens, the changes brought about by the Lisbon Treaty and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, as well as about the two essential rights enshrined in the Charter – the freedom of movement and non-discrimination. The seminars also envisaged interactive methods, including the role games, discussions and work in small groups. The seminars took place in Riga (29.01.2013), Jelgava (07.02.2013), Valmiera (19.02.2013), Liepaja (21.02.2013) and Daugavpils (01.03.2013). Altogether, 148 high-school students attended the seminars.

The seminars were organised within the framework of the project "Lisbon Treaty: Empowerment of European Citizens" implemented in cooperation with the Human Rights Monitoring Institute (Lithuania), owning to the financial support of the European Union.
