  • Ministry of Culture cut funding for the NGO Latvian National Association of Cultural Societies
The Minister of Justice Aigars Stokenbergs commented the decision of the UN Human Rights Committee which ruled that the Latvianisation of non-Latvian names and surnames (such as adding ending -s) in official documents issued in Latvia is interference in private life. The Minister stated that this decision is not obligatory for implementation. He also believes that non-Latvian names are not being Latvianised but written according to Latvian language grammar which is recognised proper by the Constitutional Court of Latvia.
