  • Latvijas Avize: Russian language dominates in labour market

Latvijas Avize prints an article about domination of Russian language in labour market in Latvia. According to the article, Russian language is required in raw with Latvian language proficiency for majority of vacancies. Head of the Control Department of the State Language Centre Antons Kursitis believes that such situation discriminates those young people who learned English, German, French and other foreign languages except Russian during last 18 years. Mr. Kursitis also considers that specific rules of the Cabinet of Ministers should prohibit requirement for obligatory Russian language from candidates for vacancies if half of the workers already are proficient in Russian language.
